The major challenge of search engine optimization (SEO) for small business owners is that the rules change often. While some small business owners may have a basic understanding of SEO techniques, most do not have the time to stay on top of current trends. The result is that most small business websites are either completely unoptimized for today's search engines or they have some optimiziation using old or outdated steps. Here, I will share some website optimization tips that are beneficial to most websites, have stood the test of time, and are relatively simple to implement.

To begin with, your site must be visible to search engines, which is not the same as being visible to humans. Search engines cannot understand and rank your web site if their "spiderbots" cannot follow links between pages. Therefore, every website should have a sitemap. Simply do a search for "create sitemap" to find sites where you can create and download your own sitemap.

Your website should also use HTML-based text links to connect all your pages together. Some search engines currently have difficulty reading links contained within programming languages such as Flash and Javascript. While a sitemap will help the engines see a basic outline of your website, using text links alone or in addition to other types of links will enable your site to be indexed and ranked appropriately.

Now that we are sure your site can be found, the next major step is to provide quality information, or content. Quality content must be relevant to your site, offer a unique perspective, and be timely in nature. Updating or adding content frequently tells search engines consistent effort is going into your site's content, and may provide a ranking boost to your site when other factors are similar. One of the reasons blogs are so popular now is due to their simple manner in which content may be added, updated, or changed. Any content added should reflect one of the basic themes or areas of focus on your site. Websites with no focused topics find top rankings impossible to achieve. After adding your new content, be sure to link your other pages to the new content - taking care to use descriptive words in your link text (often called "anchor text").

Sites that offer useful content updated regularly will eventually attract a lot of internet surfers. However, SEO for small business cannot be considered complete without strategies to speed up the process. The general term for this process is link development (or "link-building") and is a third major step in search engine optimization. Building link popularity can involve actions such as sending out optimized press releases whenever newsworthy events occur regarding your business. Other forms of link popularity include contacting other websites and directories with similar content or groups and request for a link to the site.

Many options exist for affordable website design. They design an effective web site which is easy to use, easy to navigate and attractively designed. When considering potential web design firms, consider more than just cost alone - ask about their knowledge of search engine optimization techniques. Without at least a basic understanding of SEO techniques, you could end up with a website that is overlooked or ignored by search engines.

An SEO web designer's strategy is to increase natural web traffic and improve your search engine rankings. True SEO web design isn't a miracle, it's an art that necessitates following a fairly distinct path of website expansion including valuable reader content, properly design pages, significantly placed key search terms, search term modification and page assessment. Search engine optimization is first about getting your site listed in the search engines, secondly about ranking well and, most importantly, about bringing the right visitors to your website.

It has been surmised that a panel may be needed to check into the credentials and expert status of online article authors to see if they pass the proper standards test or can cut the mustard. Many seasoned experts are a little miffed that some online article authors write "thinly veiled" content. A few have floated the idea of setting a panel or quality control board to serve this process.

But is that even feasible? Some of the top online article writers believe that it is not such an easy task and perhaps may not even be feasible. Indeed, I think I agree with this line of thought in that a quality board is way out of the question as some days there are well over 1,000 articles submitted in a single 24-hour period on one top online article submission website and thus it is simply outrageous how much work that might be.

Indeed I also agree that the "human innate characteristics" of small panel group participants is a given, thus a panel in itself would be problematic. For instance who watches the panel and then are their disputes on rulings, thus rules. And once you make "one rule" well you got em' lifetime job security? And even if a panel could decide what an expert is, that would be a definition. Which brings up an interesting question?

Definitions and rules is a similar process, in that if you make one definition, you are forever further redefining it and creating more. This leads to bureaucracy which is indeed leads to less fluidity of motion, and less agility, thus ruins all the good that is. If you have more definitions, rules and panels all you have created is more minutia and less efficiency, to what avail?

In the online article authoring world there are many different types of folks who write articles and although most of them write in order to use informational marketing to attract customers on the Internet to partake in their goods or services, the total number of reasons that people write articles is truly astounding.

Indeed, I think that anyone who makes this connection is correct in considering that authors write on different subjects for different reason and their points about the author being an expert in one or more fields but not in others also makes sense. For instance for me, I have expertise in Franchising, Small Business, Marketing, Branding, Car Washing, Trucking, Aviation, Technology, Sports Competition, Winning, Philosophy, Humanities, Politics, Economics, Innovation and various related fields. But I write about all sorts of stuff and I would say that those areas I am not so good at, it is a challenge to write a strong article, I am happy with and thus I would not obviously be any kind of expert in those areas.

Many authors believe and I concur that an author can be an expert in some domains, but not all. But how would the reader know this? Should a panel be set up at the top online article submission sites to grade author status as experts? Well, if that is feasible considering the resources involved to look over the articles and considering the "primate politics of panels" then this would solve a problem.

On one of the top online article submission sites, I noticed that there are only 3 pages of authors who have over 100 articles, then starting with only those authors of over 100 articles, it could be done fairly easy. A panel could look at those authors to find out if they were truly experts in various subjects and when they submitted articles to those categories they might be accompanied by a star?

There is a company called "Topix" which has local panels rating news, all volunteers even, and it works fine. If there were only 300 authors to rate, this is easily feasible and eventually maybe it could be taken down to 75 or 50 articles and thus someone to get to the rating system level would have to pony up and write some articles, thus also stretching them to prove they could perform and "SHOW ME" type proof of expert status.

Also remember that the author could submit which categories they feel most qualified in and the group could choose these categories based on their accomplishments in the real world and then "+" their articles? I am a firm believer in real world experience and doing over merely someone who is a "great writer" and can spin a phrase.

Article marketing is a very diverse world that many people often gain great success in. This success however does come with great effort. There is not one thing in Internet Marketing that does not take effort. Everything you earn will be the result of how much effort you put into it.

Today the subject I will be writing about will be about Article Marketing. Article Marketing is one of the best marketing tactics that a person can have. Article Marketing can be a valuable asset that could make you lots of money in the long run. Here are five tips that can improve your efforts...

1. Select A Good Niche

The Niche that you write about can make a big difference in how you operate your Article Marketing enterprise. First, select a niche that you can really write about without sounding like an idiot that does not know what they are writing about. If somebody reads something that sounds like the writer knows nothing about the topic, what would that look like? It would look like the writer is a liar and we don't want that.

2. Proofread Everything

If a reader sees that you have poor handwriting, why would they even see your website? Something small like handwriting can make a tremendous effect for the better good or bad. Always spell check everything that you place on a article distribution website. A potential customer could look at an error in your spelling and turn away from what you are offering without thinking twice.

3. Research Your Topic

Make an attempt in giving your reader time-saving information that they could use. This includes actually researching the topic you are writing about. If a reader receives valuable information you will be repaid for it by being called an expert. This title will create many new leads that pay for your advice. So when you make the effort, you will get something in return. This return could be anything from new leads to affiliate income.

4. Choose Your Article Distribution Service Carefully

The distribution service will determine how your articles are viewed by readers. If you have your articles on a highly respectable website, it will do better because the author put the article on a higher quality website instead of another website. If the reader finds the article on a lower site, that would look like the author does not pay attention to where they submit their articles to. So that is why I suggest that you never use article submitters because your articles might show up on junk sites. Google might also look at where you place your article and make a judgment that your site is good or bad.

5. Choose The Right Keywords

The entire world of Article Marketing revolves around what kind of keywords you use for your article. If you use the wrong type of keywords, your article could up in a place that is unrelated to your niche. This could be a problem if Google is searching for websites that are relevant to your website link. If you have a article that is related to health care and it ends up on a website that is dedicated to travel, Google will see that and will make the conclusion that the article is on a unrelated website. So it pays off when you choose the right kinds of keywords.

Viral marketing is a methods of list building

There are multiple methods of list building, and if you are just getting started, until you have gained mastery over one or two methods, it is advisable to use multiple methods of list building strategies. You’ll see every step of the process, no matter how small, in exacting detail so

There certainly are a lot of ways to make Money on the Internet. To create fast profits online one of the best ways to do that is to build an opt in mailing list. In this article we will discuss ways to do that.

First of all, but be sure that you know, e-mail marketing is not a bad strategy. People use e-mail every day, and may well open yours, if it's something they look forward to reading.

- Secondly, spam is not e-mail that people look forward to reading. So if you're sending unwanted emails stop it. You need to be sending out email to people that have agreed to receive it from you.

- Building a list is all about helping people opt in, meaning that they have agreed you can send them e-mail. This is not as easy as it sounds as people are given choices every day as to who they can receive email from. Your success in building an opt in list all starts with your ability to market successfully on the Internet.

- To market your list on the Internet you need to promote a landing page with an auto responder sign up form. Your landing page is a webpage where people give you their name and email address in exchange for something from you.

- You promote your landing page the same way as you do a regular website. You do it anyway you can including traffic exchanges, pay per click advertising, e-zine advertising, and so on. Your goal is to drive as much traffic to your landing page and then convert some of that into subscribers to your list.

It is important that you work with your list while you are building it. Cultivating a list is something that takes time, but can reap long term benefits. The way to create fast profits from a cultivated list is to market to it selectively.

- Selective marketing means you don't mail out anything and everything that you come across. When someone hears from you, they expect it to be good and you deliver. The benefit of this is when you do mail out an offer a high percentage of people will buy from you.

A good quality mailing list can be worth as much as one dollar per person, per month. Then just build a larger mailing list and you can make more money. And again, you do not do that by spamming, but rather by earning your subscribers, one at a time.

This will allow you to create more online profits over and over. And if you're ever in a position where you need to make fast profits you send out a mailer to your list and watch the money come in!
